Working in Schools

I believe it is essential to introduce the concept of healthy food choices from an early age. Poor diet and nutrition are key factors in illness and health problems - such as increasing rates of Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in both adults and children - and can often be prevented in the developed world. A natural diet - rich in whole foods and a variety of nutrient dense fruit and vegetables - is essential for both healthy growth and our mental wellbeing.  It’s also more sustainable for our planet too!

Working with local schools, I aim to encourage children to have a positive relationship with food. Our focus is on ‘natural foods’ as we instigate conversations around ‘what we eat?’ and ‘where it comes from?’ Not only does this aim to nurture healthier eating habits from a young age, but also seek to reduce the risk of health issues later in life.

I run a series of assemblies and practical workshops for Early Years and Primary Children. I also have a special interest in supporting children with additional needs (SEN), who often find their relationship with food even harder.

Learning about food and nutrition spans multiple disciplines from numeracy and literacy, to science, technology and PSHE. Baking can even provide a therapy-like response for some children and adults, myself included!

Introducing children to health and wellbeing through the concept of ‘Eating the Rainbow.’ My assemblies and workshops illustrate how including a diverse variety of colourful fruit and vegetables supports both our bodies and minds. The ultimate aim is to make healthy food choices fun!

The ‘Healthy Body, Happy Me Course’ is my NEW series of classes for children to learn just how important our food choices are for every aspect of our physical development and emotional wellbeing. A little bit of theory and a lot of practical learning lends the perfect balance to this six week course aimed at Early Years and Primary School children.

My tailored series of SEN Workshops offers a multi-sensory approach to learning about food and nutrition. Many children with additional needs have associated dietary or sensory issues and find trying new foods overwhelming. I’m sensitive to these challenges and am here to help…
