Eat the Rainbow
This is my original - and most popular - workshop and acts as a vibrant introduction to health and wellbeing through the concept of ‘Eating the Rainbow.’ A bountiful array of fresh produce from the local market illustrates to the children how a diet rich in colourful fruits and vegetables can support their bodies and minds.
A whole school assembly and/or smaller group workshops (as part of the DT or PSHE curriculum) are great ways to teach how different colours bring different benefits to our bodies and brains. Puppets and props add a sense of fun for younger pupils to fully engage them in this important conversation around food at an early age.
By adopting a multi-sensory approach, children are encouraged to touch, smell, feel and taste beautiful produce to create a large scale ‘fruit and vegetable’ rainbow and/or individual rainbow kebabs representative of the value of colourful food choices for a healthy diet.
Smaller group workshops are often funded by subject specific budgets (e.g. PSHE), voluntary parent contributions or supported by the school’s PTA, who recognise the importance of this message for our children.
